The Classic Aggie was the adopted collegiate mascot for, then named, New Mexico A&M College as "Pistol Pete" in the 1950s, representing Aggie spirit, pride and culture of the university. It is modeled after the real-life, gun-slinging lawman, Frank Eaton, who is said to have won a legendary gunfight in Albuquerque.
NMSU entered into a license agreement with Oklahoma State University, with permissions to produce and sell items bearing the Classic Aggie image through the Alumni Relations Office, so long as the total number of products sold and gifted using the Classic Pete image stays below a mere few thousand total items. So, consider yourself lucky if you get one of the limited edition Classic Aggie merchandise items!Classic Aggie Shop
