James F. Cole Memorial Award for Service Nomination

The James F. Cole Memorial Award for Service recognizes those who have shown progressive support to NMSU, dedicated involvement with NMSU, impactful civic and humanitarian service at NMSU and within the communities around them and notable professional service.

ELIGIBILITY

A nominee can be either an individual or a couple, but only one award will be given annually.
A nominee - whether an individual or couple - may only receive one James F. Cole Memorial Award for Service.
This individual must be a graduate of NMSU or an active member of the Alumni Association (make an annual gift of any amount to NMSU).
This individual must be available to attend Homecoming. Recipients will be recognized at the Awards Dinner on the Friday evening of Homecoming week.
This individual demonstrates progressive support to NMSU, dedicated involvement with NMSU, high impact civic and humanitarian service at NMSU and within the surrounding communities and notable professional service.
Members of NMSU faculty or staff are eligible for the James F. Cole Memorial Award for Service as long as they are alumni or active members of the Alumni Association.
A nominee who has received a Distinguished Alumni Award previously may be considered for a James F. Cole Memorial Award for Service. However, a person may not receive both the James F. Cole Memorial Award for Service and a Distinguished Alumni Award in the same year.
A nominee who has received a Young Alumni Service Award previously may be considered for a James F. Cole Memorial Award for Service. However, a person may not receive both the James F. Cole Memorial Award for Service and a Young Alumni Service Award in the same year.
Any student, alumni, friend, family member, faculty member, staff member, department head or dean may submit a nomination for the James F. Cole Memorial Award for Service.

Those ineligible for nomination:

An alum who is serving in public office or who is a candidate for any public office.
One currently serving as a member of any NMSU Advancement Board, including the Foundation Board of Directors, the NMSU Alumni Association Board of Directors and the Pioneers Board.

PROCEDURE

Application Deadline: Completed nomination forms must be submitted to the NMSU Alumni Office prior to May 15, 2024. Nomination forms must be complete and thorough and contain supporting documents. This information will be used as the basis for the evaluation and selection of the James F. Cole Memorial Award for Service recipient.

Review Committee: Members of the Alumni Association Awards Committee will review all completed award nominations and make the final selection. The James F. Cole Memorial Award for Service recipient will be honored during NMSU Homecoming.

Nominee Review and Consideration: Candidates with previous nomination forms on file will need to provide updated material using this new form. Once submitted, the application will be on file and considered for an additional two years from the current submission date.
